I was walking up 14th Street from Valencia to Guerrero today, when I noticed a crowd of people, then police cars, then a person in a weird white suit... and finally, the reason for all the commotion - THOUSANDS OF HONEY BEES!

Apparently, that fellow in the blue shirt came out to his car and there was a massive cloud of bees swarming around it. The police were called, then a bee keeper. The keeper brought a queen and a box and began to corral the bees which she planned to take back to her honey-making hive.

Cut up cauliflower flowerets into bite size pieces and soak in water for half an hour.

It was my birthday this past week. My mom sent me this vintage tea set she got as a teenager from my uncle when he was stationed in Taiwan. She never used it, so she sent it to me.

I inaugurated it with a pot of Chinese green tea made from two bags steeped for five minutes. It tends to dribble when pouring, but it's nice using the little cups and having multiple refills of hot, potent tea. I brewed a pot to drink while watching Broken Flowers, which I just realized is a Jim Jarmusch film. I haven't seen anything by him in forevs. Man, I'm out of it. Anyway, both were bleak and reassuring.

It's now 1am. I can't sleep. I blame the tea.

I went to see Liars at the Outside Lands festival in Golden Gate Park today. I got myself a one-day pass, took a cab, watched this awesome band for a half hour, then took a cab home. Totally worth it. My set from the show is on Flickr...; five photos plus the video.
